1999 Ford Contour turns off and sounds like its going to tu

I have a 99 ford contour and it sounds like its going to cut off when its just sitting(kinda sounds like it idles high then low). Also, It cut off on me twice already, and my muffler sounds like its a honda...

Inspect and test the idle air control valve and EGR valve also test the throttle position sensor and clean the MAF sensor with an electronic cleaner.
