1999 Ford Contour Repair cost

I was told that I need to replace my car shruts/shocks. My question is are they the same or do I need to replace one and not the other or do they come together as an combine unit. please advise

rear struts $115 each front struts $98 each Front suspension is MacPherson strut type, using gas pressurized struts and cast steering knuckles. Strut assembly is bolted to top of strut tower. Lower end of strut fits into a pinch joint, designed into the steering knuckle. A stamped steel control arm attaches to subframe and steering knuckle at lower ball joint. A link assembly runs between the strut and stabilizer bar end. See Fig. 1 . Installation of new front strut assemblies and/or springs in pairs is not required by manufacturer. Contour, Cougar and Mystique use a MacPherson strut independent rear suspension. Each side consists of a gas-pressurized shock absorber strut assembly, 2 parallel control arms, tie rod, forged spindles, shock bumper, and dust shield. See Fig. 1 .
