driving in the rain about 65mph, the tach rose to about 4000, riseing and falling erraticly, the trans started baming and shifting up and down like it woudn't stay in tghe right gear

check engine light on
get the codes if so
I would start by checking the engine and its operation
check for tune up
check for vacuum leaks
check tranny fluid
