1999 Ford Contour engine runs hot

As I drive the engine temp. gradualy climbs. Although it has not actually overheated yet, I feel it is only a matter of time. I am guessing that the thermastat is the problem. please advise.

Replace the thermostat with the correct type and if it continues come on back
