Transmission problem
1998 Ford Contour 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 150K miles

Yesterday on a highway, when I was driving at 60 MPH, the car started loosing speed (speedometer dropped) and stopped. I stopped the engine and restarted it after 10 secs and it did again after 200ft. Its making noise if I am pressing accleration once its start dropping speed. What could be the problem?

I am told that my transmission filter is in-built so in order to change it I need to disassembly. However, I checked the transmission fluid it was not clean, I am changing it today.

Can you describe the noise you are hearing when you press the accellerator?
