1998 Ford Contour Speedometer

My speedometer is not working. Also, my transmission will not shift into higher gear. Problem? Speed sensor? Faulty wiring? Before this happened today, Car runs rough, surges at stop lights, Sometimes ike not getting enough fuel - have to keep RPMS up, Other time idleing too fast.

The speedometer problem and trans sound related to a bad vehicle speed sensor (VSS). AS far as the engine, has the check engine light come on? IT sounds like a throttle position sensor but I need a code to be sure. Also, check for vacuum leaks.

Let me know what you find.

PS: If the check engine light is on, have the computer scanned.
