Ok I have a 1997 Ford Contour 6 cly, 5 speed. I have been driving fine for the last few days no problems, but the other night a friend took it out and was messing around driving it real fast. I got in the car drove it to a stop and the whole time it ran fine. I got back in after an hour and the car would have trouble running. Id put it in 1 or reverse and the car has alot of trouble iddling up. Every time I make a shift or release the gas the car begins to slow done very progessivly. The man I bought it from was a mechanic and he had trouble with the engine light before he sold it. He said it may have been the O2 sensor so he replased it. What should I do now?

Hi there,

Check for any set fault codes first. And I would start with things like checking the fuel system, replacing the filter and check the fuel for contaminants. Do this first.

I replaced the O2 sensors and that wasnt the problem. So I gave it to my mechanic and he fixed the problm, it was the upper and lower intake gaskets. Thx for your help anyways.
