1997 Ford Contour car stopped on freeway

My car had a funny smell then started slowing down on the freeway then stopped completly then started smoking from under the hood or the exhaust, the battery light and oil light came on.

If you haven't found out by now suspect headgasket failed thus causing the demise of engine.
