1997 Ford Contour 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic
About a month ago my car started making a whining noise when I accelerated. Then sometimes my car would jerk when I got to 20 mph, 30 mph, etc. Then my car would rev up really high even though I was going the same speed and my overdrive light in dashboard would flicker on and off. A week ago, my car just stopped driving....while I was driving. It starts fine, idles fine- most of the time, but when I put it in drive or reverse it doesnt move. And if I accelerate, it just revs up. Sometimes it begins to roll slowly about 7 seconds after I stepped on the gas. The whining sound begins when I turn the key forward (before starting), when its started and only gets louder when I step on the accelerator. Should I get the transmission filter changed or something? Or is my car past reasonable costs for fixing?
