1996 Ford Contour overdrive dashboard light blinking

Transmission is working well with a little hesitation in start up / smooths out quickly but overdrive on / off light begins blinking after approx 5 minutes/ clicking the button does no good / no noticeable change in trans. Performance during light flashing
do I just need a service call or am I looking at a soon to be serious trans. Problm?

Hello Over drive light flashing because system has detected something amiss in trans system. You need to get it scanned to determine what the computer detected as a problem. There will be some codes let me know what codes came up and I can help you further.
