1996 Ford Contour clutch or cluthch mastercylinder

I have a 1996 ford contour and I went to driv e it one day and the clutch went to the floor and stayed there. Went back out a week later to try to move it and cluth was back out and it drove just fine. Another question is where is the clutch master cylinder located. Thanks for any help you can give me.
