Starter Removal
Disconnect the battery ground cable, then raise and support the vehicle.
Remove the engine air intake resonators.
Lower vehicle, then remove upper starter motor bolt.
Raise and support vehicle, then remove B-terminal and S-terminal nuts from starter solenoid.
Remove lower starter motor bolts, then the motor from the vehicle.
Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
When installing lower starter motor bolts, be sure to install the ground cable.
Torque lower starter motor bolts to 15-20 ft lb.
Torque B-terminal nut to 6.7-10.3 ft lb , then S-terminal nut to 44-62 in lb.
REMOVAL of the Air Intake Resonator
Remove air cleaner outlet tube.
Disconnect engine control sensor wiring from intake air temperature sensor.
Loosen engine air cleaner tube clamp and remove one engine air intake resonator from mass air flow sensor.
Remove retaining nuts and bolt for the other engine air intake resonator from the throttle body and intake manifold. Remove engine air intake resonator from throttle body and intake manifold.
If required, remove intake air temperature sensor from engine air intake resonator.
INSTALLATION
To install, reverse removal procedure.
Tighten retaining nuts and bolt to throttle body and intake manifold to 8-12 Nm (71-106 lb in) . Tighten engine air cleaner tube clamps to 2.7-5.4 Nm (24-48 lb in) .
