1995 Ford Contour AC/heater to defrost vents only

1995 Ford Contour 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

My brother-in-law just called with a question. He is working on 4 cyl. 95 Ford Contour. The ac/heater blower only blows out the defroster vents. He has a repair manual and is leaning toward replacement of the blend door actuator. I guess this is a dealer only part. Anyway he would like some input on what are the most likely causes of this problem?

More likely a vacuum source problem. There is a small vacuum line that goes from the interior to the engine, ususally enters the engine comp on the pass side of the car. Be sure it is not cracked/broken, this will cause the vents to go to default (defrost) due to lack of vacuum
