I have a 1996 Eddie Bauer 5.8 and for the past two months it has just been shutting off while driving all at different times. Then it starts up after the first try or sometimes I have to wait a couple of minutes. It could turn off day to day or it will wait a week. This is what I have done to try to correct the promblem: new Ignition coil, spark plugs, spark plug wires,Ignition rotor,Distrubotor cap,Ignition control module, Crankcase sensor and also a fuel filter. It has been twice that it gave me codes and it was to replace the crankcase sensor. I was reading somewhere that it could be the PCM. Need help

Could it have been a P0335 code? For the crankshaft position sensor? This sensor is needed by the PCM(main Computer) to fire the spark plugs, check the wire for wiggling loose, it goes to the sensor at that big bottom pulley on the front of the motor.

Yes I know where it is. My question is that this is the third time that is has gone off. What should I check for that is making this sensor go bad. I was told that the PIP in the distributor and also was told that PCM may be going bad.

I can better help if you can post the actual code? But if it was this one, the sensor can be tested, I can look up the specs for it if you can tell me what the code is? But senor can burn out..or crack and become temperature sensitive....
