The motor in the tailgate sounds like it trying to operate the window up and down but i get no result. Both the key switch in the tailgate and the one in dash give the same result. I can hear the motor turn on and it sounds like it may be slipping or something. I have heard of many broncos having trouble with the rear window so i am hoping that someone might know what is going on.

I have the same problem with a 79 Bronco. Took it apart and greased it to no avail. Seems almost like a slipping clutch. Does the motor have an internal clutch. If I push and pull on the window, it works.

If you remove your motor and disassemble the gear cover, you'll likely find the remnants of some plastic inserts. These inserts called torque pins can be purchase at any auto parts store that carries the "Help" brand of merchandise. All you have to do is clean out the old grease and debris, put in the new torque pins and repack the case with new grease and reassemble. The torque pins are about 8 bucks. Trust me, if I can do it, so can you.
