Transmission problem
1992 Ford Bronco V8 Four Wheel Drive Automatic

I bought this Bronco from a guy and he told me the torque converter may ned to be replaced because it was over heating, I drove it from Los Angeles to Prescott Az with no problems except a little over heating. I attempted to drive it to Kingman I got about 30 miles away and it would hardly move with out the engine racing and over heating and the exaust manifold and pipes were red hot up to the catalatyc converter. The guy told me he had the transmision flushed twice recently. I want to know before I tear into this that I'm fixing the right part. Would the clogged catalatyc converter cause this or is it a combo of both?

This is a trans prob but not the Torque Converter. Its the trans pump losing pressure and causing it to slip. I hope this helps.

It doesn't feel like it's slipping at all it just doesn't go, and it shifts just fine too, feels kind of like going 50 mph in first gear.

It very well could be the accumalator valve in the trans which would cause these problems. What color is the trans. The reason I dont think its the Catalytic converter is because the engine not dying from backpressure.

E40D, enough said. You are gouing to need a rebuild. I'm sorry. The trans is cooked. Italked to the guy that does my tyrans work and he said that the bands are wore out and the clutch packs are burning up from slipping. He said that this was caused by the torque converter going bad. He has about 42 years exp. so this isnt a shade tree asnwer. I hope this helps.

I've known this guy for 15 years he had no idea, couldn't figure out why it was over heating, he went thurought he whole truck tryin figure it out, but I only picked it up a grand so it was a steal anyway, even if I gotta rebuild the tranny.
