Wipers not working properly

V8 four wheel drive automatic 155,000 miles

When I turn on my wipers they are very loud and work well for about ten seconds, then they will pause in different areas of the windshield for a few seconds and the start working again then pause again. this cycle just goes on and on. I believe the motor is going bad because of the sound it is making i just want to make sure. Also, i just purchased the vehicle and it had been sitting for fourteen months. could rust in the motor or on the gears be causing this?

Chances are the motor is the problem. Rust would not cause this problem. If it is making a lot of noise, then the motor is most likely bad.
