1990 Ford Bronco hot alternator

My sons 90 bronco w/140k has an electrical issue somewhere. The alternator is hot whenever the battery is being charged or he has the radio on when he is working on it (not running) We changed the selanoid last fall and it has been sitting for awhile since he is paying for parts as he earns the $$. I,m lost except for changing the alternator...HELP

If alt is hot with key off then diodes in rectifier bridge are bad . So yes replace alt.
