Engine Mechanical problem
1989 Ford Bronco V8 Four Wheel Drive Automatic

Let me clarify. I have a Bronco with a tilt steering wheel. The truck starts without the key. I have the key for it. I have a new lock cylinder, but don't know how to replace it. Do I need any special tools? I don't know how to remove the steering wheel. I am not mechanically inclined! Please be specific. Thanks.

Hello
Thanks for the donation

Below are the replacement procedures..

REMOVAL:
Disconnect the battery ground.
Remove the upper extension shroud by unsnapping the shroud from the retaining clip at the 9 o'clock position.
Remove the trim shroud halves.
Unplug the wire connector at the key warning switch.
Place the shift lever in PARK and turn the key to ON .
Place a 1 / 8 in. (3mm) wire pin in the hole in the casting surrounding the lock cylinder and depress the retaining pin while pulling out on the cylinder.

INSTALLATION:
When installing the cylinder, turn the lock cylinder to the RUN position and depress the retaining pin, then insert the lock cylinder into its housing in the flange casting. Assure that the cylinder is fully seated and aligned in the interlocking washer before turning the key to the OFF position. This will allow the cylinder retaining pin to extend into the cylinder cast housing hole.
The remainder of installation is the reverse of removal.

If you need further assistance just let me know.

Thank you! This was extremely helpful, very thorough and easy to understand. I was told I had to drop the steering column and that required removing the steering wheel. Don't you need a wheel puller for that? My mechanic said this job would take about two hours, and cost about $300. (he quoted the part at $50, but I bought one at an auto parts store for $15.50.)

All right, thanks again! I would love to be able to leave some pos. feedback, and give you points, but apparently I'm not able to. So just let me say thank you, your answers were EXTREMELY helpful, and I'm going to give it a try. Wish me luck!

5 STARS!
Have a great day! :D

Oops! Didn't get very far. Can't seem to locate the upper extension shroud. Nothing seems removable by simply un-clipping it! Is it up inside the dash? I couldn't get THAT apart either.
