!989 bronco ii. I hear a clanking from the front end while the motor is in idle and accelerating. The sound will increase in speed as I accelerate. Almost sounds like metal spinning within metal. The front u-joints are fine. It cant be the axle if Im not moving. When I accerlate Ill hear a combo clanking and clacking. I think the clanking is aleak from exhaust maifold gaskets.

333000 miles, sounds like the rods and mains are spent (bearings) and possibly the wristpin bearings. At this point its cheaper to replace the engine. Maybe be a sticky lifter, but being such high mileage, id put my money on a bearing. Pull the oilpan to see if you spun a bearing. At that point, check the condition of the bearings. If you see copper, they are junk. Should turn the crankshaft, and get new bearings, but keep in mind mileage. I suggest a new engine.

I might have miss lead you with the "Clanking sound"
Its more of a rining sound. I dont know if that helps. The motor sounds pretty good. Just a little tick from the lifters.

If its a whining noise, pull the front timing cover, check your chain tensioner, and slides. They should be good and worn by now.
