is there a trick to getting ttthe fuel pump back in a 1980 ford 351 m

Kind of the actuator rod needs to be on back side of cam ecsentric. Feel fro rod rotate engine untill it moves up then take a globe of grease put it on rod will hold until pump is bolted on.
