1995 Ford Aspire
about 100k miles
1.3 L engine

It sounds like it is hiccuping when it idles. When I start it up, I notice a strange noise under the hood. Checked it out and it sounds as though it is coming from the belt closest to the alternator.
I also noticed that the temp gauge is going toward cold, not *staying* on cold, but bouncing violently toward it.
I haven't noticed ANY of this since before I took it to Jiffy Lube (ugh) for an oil change a week or so ago. I don't want to take it back there b/c I fear they will do something even worse!
Is it possible they knocked something lose and that's why it is running so strangely?
Could it be the timing belt?

check to see if the alternator or idlerpulley is bolted down securley. try to describe the noise you are hearing. and i dont belive the noise has a thing to do with the coolant temp sending unit. i think that needs replacing if it is violently bouncing that can be causing the ecm to be mixing fuel wrong and causing it to idle poorly
