1997 Ford Aspire CV Boots and Timing Belt Repair

I was told my car needs the front axle assembly replaced (one CV boot is leaking and the other is cracked) and the timing belt replaced because there's oil on it. I can't afford to have all the repairs done at once, but I'm thinking I should have the timing belt fixed first. Would that be the best thing to do? I asked the mechanic I went to and he wouldn't say.

that is a hard decision because if the front axle assembly fails during operation it could cause an accident and get you hurt. but if the timing belt breaks during operation then the valves and piston will most likely collide and cause internal engine damage. i know i would choose my own safety over a car's but ultimately the choice is yours.
