1994 Ford Aspire transmission won't go into any gear

1994 Ford Aspire 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

Was merging onto the freeway at around 45 MPH tha transmission seemed to go into neutral. could this be caused by the electronic control module

Did the check engine light come on? Is the trans fluid full?
