My first post.

Hello, I have a 1989 Ford Aerostar Eddie Bauer 3.0 liter V6 with about 130K Miles on it. My problem is that, while driving it recently I felt these sudden pulls from going on a stop.

This happens in first gear, while on a stop, I hit on the accelerator, and the engine races for about one second, followed by a sharp tug from that stop. But when I try this at a lower RPM, I can sometimes feel, or hear some sort of grinding noise coming from below the floor.

Sometimes while (On occasion), from third to fourth gear there is a slippage in the transmission. I'm pretty sure.

I can suspect this of being a transmission poblem going around, but not sure.

What can be the cause of these sudden jerks when in first gear.

I have just checked the ATF level and it seems fine.

Many thanks! :)

The Aerostar van jerks forward after about one second as of the engine has raced. It feels like as it would be trying to catch the first gear. (If you have ever been in a stick shift car, you know that when the driver is engaging in first gear, there is a brief pause of when, he/she pushes down the clutch, adds some gas, and then releases the clutch. But the driver has added too much gas to the engine, causing that sudden jerk forward, and the stick shift car then stalls). This is the feeling that I get when I try to drive it from higher RPMS. Just a really mean jerk forward... :(

But in case you are wondering, the van does not stall. I was just comparing the two.
