1996 Ford Aerostar oil gauge

Driving down the road the oil gauge goes past the the highmark what could be causing this?

The oil pump pressure relief valve might not be opening or the oil pressure sending unit is out of calibration

Do an actual oil pressure check with a mechanical gauge -if normal replace the OPSU
