My remote no longer works?

My remote no longer works and when I unlock the door with the key, the engine won't start. I've replaced the batteries in the remote. I've called the ford dealer and he says that unlocking the van with the key in the door "should" disarm the security system. It doesn't Please help! I have no transportation.

Hello,

On these vehicles you can reset the security alarm system.
Just disconnect the negative battery cable and wait for a minute.
Reconnect, it should reset the system.

You can also try this method:
Press down the panic button for 2 seconds. Close all doors and use the key to lock and unlock the driver's door. This should reset the system as well.
