well i cant get the panel off of the floorboard (front and center under dash)so I can get the part ##S off of the old unit

do you have the panel revealed? it may be underneath carpeting.the panel itself should be held on by 2 bolts towards the firewall. then there will be 2 clamps tha thold the cover at the bottom. remove those 2 clamps and the panel should come free.
