Engine Mechanical problem
1993 Ford Aerostar 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

My van has 224,563 miles on it. I've taken very good care of it. THe van has recently overheated and stalled and now won't start at all. Any suggestions?

Hi:
How long and hot did it get? Also, have you checked for spark and fuel to the engine?

It was very quick the needle shot up to H and it stalled. Some had told me I blew a head gasket. Could that be possible?

Hi:
I doubt that a head gasket would have done that. Have you been able to check for fuel and spark to the engine?

Also, if you are worried about the head gasket, do some general checks. Look at the engine oil to make sure no coolant has gotten in to it. Also, check the coolant to make sure no oil got to it. Inspect the heads where they attach to the engine block for coolant leaks. Also, do you remember if the car was producing white smoke from the exhaust before this happened.

Overall, if the gauge spiked quickly and the engine died, it sounds like an electrical problem, sensor, computer. Is there any way you could have the computer scanned for trouble codes? Also, when the engine over heated, did you see steam or loose coolant?

Joe
PS: Sorry I have so many questions, but I need to try to limit the possibilities.
