1993 Ford Aerostar not going in gear

the van runs great, goes in park, reverse and nuetral perfect. but when u shift into drive it takes it awhile to go in gear.once it goes into gear trans. shifts fine and does not slip.what could the delay in going in drive be???please help

well the delay could be many things .the only thing that is fairly easilly done is service the filter and fluid.
