1993 Ford Aerostar Distributor/Running

I have a 93 Ford Areostar 3.0L and it died on me on the freeway.Turned out the gears on the distributor were worn out and some broke off.Well i changes the distributor but know it starts fast idles for a few seconds and then dies.What could be the problem?

Did you verify the valve timing prior to installing the new distributor? If not you need to put engine no.1 piston on its compression stroke and line up the crank pulley TDC/0 on the timing indicator and then install it
