Transmission problem
1989 Ford Aerostar Automatic

I am trying to figure out what's wrong with the Van. I just got it a few days ago. The engine runs, but the Vehile won't move or barely moves at all. Sometimes I can get it in reverse. But not able to drive forward. Someone mention it might need a new Transmission Filter? I never even heard of that one before.

is it the transmission? Could it be something simplier?

It sounds like the transmission. Have you checked the fluid? Also, when in neurtal or park, does the engine sound and run good?

As far as the trans filter, if it is plugged, it could be the problem.
