1987 Ford Aerostar alternater and battery, possibly muffler

Noises problem
1987 Ford Aerostar 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

fixed muffler, still ran rough; then died, totally killing battery, now want to check alternater, but don't know how.

Here is a how to for checking the alt. It is really easy to do. You just need a volt meter.
