foggy windows

Hello, have you checked your coolant level lately? Windows fogging up quick like that is most likely a leaking heater core. Are the floors wet under the dashboard anywhere? Drivers or passengers side?

The floors are dry.. I will have to take a look at the heater core. My antifreeze levels are good.. the reservoir has above the required level...

Okay, if the floors are dry that's a good sign, heater cores are an expensive fix. So the HVAC system can store codes for diagnostics, if the re-circulation button blinks 3 times and goes out this means the system is turning the re-circulation off. Re-circulation will not work in defrost mode or in blend (hot/cold mix) mode as well. There is also a humidity sensor near the rear view mirror that if it malfunctions, reading excessive humidity, can cause re-circulation mode not to work. There will be a code stored for this sensor if it malfunctions. The code should be stored in body control module. This system is a bit complex due to it all being computer controlled. You may try replacing this sensor before you bring it to a dealership due to diagnostic costs. The sensor is about $60.00 and is worth trying before spending more at the dealership. I know this can be frustrating. Hopefully this info helps you.

Hey thanks for getting back to me.. I saw this problem on YouTube, but it was for a Chrysler 300.. I checked my rear view mirror and there is no sensor.. I got a 2012 Dodge Journey.

okay, here are some diagrams to help along the way. the first is the wiring diagram for the re-circulation door actuator. It will be located behind/under the glove box. You will have to find the actuator according to the wiring colors because there is more than one. You will see its dark blue/light blue and dark blue/tan, these 2 wires will both be 12 volts depending on the direction the door is moving. You can actually pull the door actuator out and change the controls and watch it move. This one is only 2 screws i believe. Checking for power while changing the controls is how you would diagnose this. If power is present and actuator is not moving then it has failed and unfortunately these actuators need to be calibrated using a scan tool. The 3rd picture is the connector, there should only be 2 pins at this connector, one on each side as you can see. Pin 6 and pin 1. Using a scan tool, the body control module can also be checked for diagnostic trouble codes which can ad in repairs. These are the basics concerning the re-circulation door. Hopefully this will be helpful.
