Okay, if the floors are dry that's a good sign, heater cores are an expensive fix. So the HVAC system can store codes for diagnostics, if the re-circulation button blinks 3 times and goes out this means the system is turning the re-circulation off. Re-circulation will not work in defrost mode or in blend (hot/cold mix) mode as well. There is also a humidity sensor near the rear view mirror that if it malfunctions, reading excessive humidity, can cause re-circulation mode not to work. There will be a code stored for this sensor if it malfunctions. The code should be stored in body control module. This system is a bit complex due to it all being computer controlled. You may try replacing this sensor before you bring it to a dealership due to diagnostic costs. The sensor is about $60.00 and is worth trying before spending more at the dealership.
