My vehicle has just done 24 898 kms (15 436, 76 miles) and now has an apparent power steering problem. The Fiat agents have said that the electrical motor that controls the power steering has to be replaced. Not only is this part expensive (it's imported), but the labour costs are astronomical, as the entire dash and steering column have to be removed. I need to know if this is a common problem with Fiat, as I have heard a number of people complain of the same thing, leading me to believe it is a manufacturer's defect. One small town Fiat agent has repaired 5 in the past six months, all with the same problem! I cannot believe, or accept, that this could fail on a car that has been well looked after and has such low mileage. To make matters worse, the vehicle warrenty expired on 14 February 2010 and the problem arose 12 days later! Many thanks, I look forward to your response in this regard and invite comments and feedback from all other Fiat owners who have experienced this problem.
