1999 Other Fiat Models brava gear box

As I drive,within 10 minutes the gear light starts flashing. As I slow down and stop the gear remains in 4th. So, as I drive off the car struggles.
If I change the gear from 1 to 2 to 3 to D the car is ok.
I have changed the gear box fluid however there was no difference.
I would appreciate any advice

have the vehicle plugged into a diagnstic computer to check for transmission fault codes
