I rented the specialty tool to remove fan clutch. The wrench is slightly larger than the nut and the nut is stripping. It will not bust loose. The fan shroud clearly says "Clutch Fan is Reverse Thread". What size is the fan clutch nut so I can get the right size wrench on it?

Hello, I am Danny.

I will find out for you in a few hours, I have one in my toolbox. I have never stripped one before. Biggest problem I have had was keeping it from spinning to break free. Yes, those suckers can be on there tight! I have attached a link for you to look at. Hope this helps and I' will get back to you. Thanks for using 2CarPros.

According to the video on the link you sent me, the fan clutch nut should turn counterclockwise to remove, as that is according to the direction of the fan blades turning when in operation. But the fan shroud clearly states the fan clutch is right hand threads. So which way does it turn for removal?

The fan clutch removal nut has stripped in both directions while attempting to remove. Will not break loose. The fan shroud clearly says "fan clutch right hand threads". Your video indicates the direction of removal to be the opposite. How do I remove this nut?

Good morning.

If the shroud says right hand, then yes it is right-hand thread. It needs to go counterclockwise to release the nut.

If it is damaged, then you need an air hammer to shock it lose. Use a chisel end on the nut so you have something to grab.
