When I put the shifter into drive it works up to roughly 10 mph before slipping into a false neutral and revving high on my rpm before attempting to slam into gear for a few seconds. I have been driving in manual third gear as it shifts from first to third no problem. I have had this issue for some months now. The issue first started when I had a fluid leak that has since been fixed. I have tried replacing the kick down sensor as well as servicing the transmission (replacing fluid and filter). Is my transmission just shot or is there a cheaper fix than replacing it?

Hey TIMMY SMITH,

From what you are saying if the transmission is slipping in only second gear then you have an issue with either the control system or the brake band being worn out.

It sounds like it is reaching pressure and attempting to shift.

This may mean there is a blockage or leak in the valve body.

What condition was the oil in when you changed it, any debris in the oil pan?

To prevent further damage I would advise that you stop driving the vehicle and take it to a transmission specialist. If it is just a case of a leaking valve in the valve body they may be able to overhaul this without removing the transmission. They will also be able to give you an idea of whether it is more cost effective to replace.

Or you can go down the route of replacing the transmission yourself with a known good unit.

Hope that helps, any further questions please do not hesitate to ask.

Regards, Joe
