It starts and idles good but when I gas on it, it hesitates and stalls and I hear a loud air sound, but it starts back up again.

Hi,

Where do you hear the sound coming from? For example, does it seem to come from under the hood or under the vehicle?

If it is loud enough, could you record what you are hearing and upload it for me to hear? I may be able to recognize the problem.

Additionally, let me know as much as you can. For example, are there any odd odors or smoke from the exhaust? Do you hear anything rattling from the exhaust?

I'm questioning if the catalytic converter is plugged or if the air inlet tube between the air filter box and the throttle body is disconnected. Take a look at this link. It explains the most common symptoms of a faulty catalytic converter. See if anything mirrors what you experience.

Also, check to see if there are any diagnostic trouble codes stored in the computer. This truck has an OBD1 system. You don't need a scanner to retrieve codes. Follow the directions in this link and let me know if you find anything:

Let me know.

Take care,

Joe

It doesn't seem like any things wrong with the catalytic converter no smells no black smoke or rattling but I've replaced MAP censor rotor cap points throttle positions censor the truck have been sitting for 2 years with a little gas in it I've put about 10 gallons in it with seafoam and start it and let run idling every day for about a week around 15 minutes a day but when I try to drive it, it stalls out but starts right back up I checked the fuel pressure by the valve stem when pushed in gas sprays out I don't have a pressure tester I'm not sure what's next but I will get a idle air control valve in tomorrow around noon and put it on.

Hi,

Is it possible for you to borrow a fuel pressure gauge from a parts store? Most will lend one to you at no charge. Also, here is a link that explains how it's done:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-check-fuel-system-pressure-and-regulator

I attached the manufacturer's fuel pressure specifications below. Keep in mind, if the pressure is 20 PSI, it will spray out of the Schrader valve, but it isn't enough for it to run properly.

Also, disconnect the vacuum hose from the fuel pressure regulator on the fuel rail and make sure there is no evidence of fuel being drawn into it. See pic 2.

Let me know.

Joe
