Failed smog because of timing

The timing came up as defective at 10 BTDC it should be 15 BTDC-is the timing set by the computer? Why is 10 defective? I would think closer to zero all the better.

Different manufacturers have different settings for timing for each engine. Yours is adjustable see picture for instructions and set to 15 degrees.

Thank you, the shop I went to actually charged $10 dollars to do it. Though by having the timing at ten it really helped on the emission numbers. The HC still came out too high and all the other numbers went up but passed. So they are installing a catalytic converter-

Next time you get it done, change oil and filter and air filter and drive about 20 miles on eway then get it tested it will probably pass
