I am needing to replace the exhaust manifold on my recently purchased vehicle listed above. I am wondering if I have a used one, how do I tell if it's able to be used on mine? What else I will need aside from the manifold itself? Also there is one of the two bolts broken inside of the spot it connects to, any suggestions to remove it? And of course the obvious of any tips or tricks that might be of some use during this project. Thanks for any and all assistance!

Hi,

Replacing the manifold really isn't too bad on this vehicle. However, I'm not sure which bolt you are referring to that is broken. Since there are two, it must be where the catalytic converter attaches.

If you look at pic 1 below, it contains the directions for removal and replacement of the exhaust manifold.

In pic 2, I included the catalytic converter. I believe that is where you have the broken bolt. Is the bolt in the converter pipe or is it in the manifold? You are replacing the manifold, so that shouldn't be an issue. If it is the pipe, let me know.

Also, if you can take a pic of the broken bolt, it may help me.

As far as additional parts, you will need a new exhaust manifold gasket and a new gasket where the manifold and converter pipe join. Keep in mind, it may be a good idea to replace the bolts if they are rusted.

One last thought. If the manifold bolts are in poor condition, take your time removing them. Spray them with a good penetrating oil a few times and let them sit. When backing them out, go a little at a time. Go out a bit and then in (back and forth). That helps eliminate corrosion on the threads that can prevent it from coming out.

Let me know if this helps or if you have other questions.

Take care,
Joe

Okay, we got the manifold and stuff the guy had mislead us with the bolt as the cause for it to be rattling. It's the next piece of the exhaust directly under the manifold that is missing a bolt not broken and the exhaust heat shield on a manifold one of the posts or pegs or whatever it is those is broken and so I figure out the type of bolt for the whatever the next piece in line is called from the picture you posted I believe it may be the catalytic. So I now am in needed knowing what size bolt to get in the specs ridge but I have a more important issue right now being that to my driver side outer CV boot ripped and I don't have money to replace it nor the tools to do so I was going to just do the whole CV when I get the money to buy one!

Hi,

As far as bolt sizes, that isn't something that is listed in a manual. Is there another one doing the same job that you can remove and match?

As far as the axle, you are better off replacing the CV axle as a unit. It is actually more common. Years ago, we would replace a boot, but when you add the parts and additional labor, it is now cheaper to replace it as a unit.

If you need directions for replacing it, provide a new post requesting that information. We are trying to keep the threads specific to one topic so they are more helpful to others. I hope you understand.

Let me know if I can help. And yes, it is the catalytic converter.

Take care,
