Exhaust manifold leak at Y pipe connection

That is a good question. By chance, do you know if the flange in question is on the manifold or the Y-pipe?

If you look at the pics below, I highlighted the flanges on each component. There are studs that thread into the exhaust manifold flange. On the opposite end, the Y pipe, there are flanges that will fit over the studs on the manifold and then a nut is used to attach them.

If the manifold threads are bad and the stud won't stay in, if there is room, you can simply get a longer bolt and nut to reach through the manifold and y-pipe. If it is the flange on the Y pipe, that is installed by the manufacturer before the converters are welded on, so that is more of an issue.

If possible, send me a couple of pictures showing your concerns. Hopefully, I'll be able to help save you some money.

The converters, two of them, are integral to the Y-pipe. Also, I believe you are asking if the studs on the exhaust manifold are bad, will you need to replace the y-pipe. Is that correct?

If the studs at the manifold are the bad portion, the Y pipe may be fine. If the flange is bad on the Y-pipe, it will likely need to be replaced. However, I will check to see if there is something to repair it without replacement.

PS: I was able to find a repair for a bad flange. I thought one existed. It's called a split flange kit. See pic below

They make different sizes, so you will need to measure what is on your truck and confirm you are getting the correct size. The size needed will be based on both the pipe outside diameter and the spacing between the two mounting bolts.
