I will broach the subject when the mechanic returns from hunting (possibly tomorrow.) Right now, the engine trouble light indicator is reading GASCAP, which I know is not true! Thanks for the suggestion.

I did some more research on the gas tank, and found a new one for $500+ at rockauto. Com; however, I went to see the mechanic and suggested what you had in the above (previous) exchange. He actually like the idea and said (after the Holiday Season expenses) will drop the tank, drill into where the damaged nipple was, and epoxy-in a brass nipple for about half of what a new tank would cost me. Thanks. I'll let you know the result after the work is done.

Be wary of epoxy repairs they tend to leak. Let me know how it goes. Happy Holidays!

After reading your remarks, I decided to order a new fuel tank, although quite expensive. It arrived over the holidays so I didn't get to take it to the mechanic until 2 days ago. The tank has two rollover valves: a small one and a large one. When we unpacked the new tank, the large rollover valve was cracked and the largest nipple on it was broken!

Another look at the damaged (broken nipple) of the original tank revealed that the nipple was still inside the sensor hose. So, my mechanic put a metal schunt in and epoxied it. A $60 dollar fix that I hope lasts!
