Every time I fill my gas tank within 2 days I get a check engine light for an evap code. I got a new cap for my gas tank and every time my mechanic clears the code it stays away, until I fill my gas tank again. This has been a consistent issue and the cap always appears to be tight. Is there anything I can do to make sure it's as tight as possible and stops causes me check engine lights?

Hi and welcome to 2CarPros. Can you provide us with the exact fault code your getting when the light comes on? It seems like your mechanic is just clearing the light and sending you on your way?

The evap monitor does not always run. There are certain conditions where it will run and it will not. That is why the check engine light does not illuminate right away. Once you give us the codes we should be able to guide you.

Here is a link on evap leaks you may want to review:

I do not know the exact code I am getting. I know my mechanic said the evap isn't running right away when I fill my tank because it runs when the tank is between like 13% and I think 80% full he said. But this is consistently happening within 2 days of filling the tank.
