evap canister sensor

My car won't pass inspection , obd says evap can. sensor. Hasn't caused any problems that I can tell, gas mileage same as always. Can it cause misfire or timing problems ?

Evaporative emissions systems have to do with collecting fumes from the gas tank and storing them until they can be burned in the engine under certain conditions. That has nothing to do with how the engine runs. It has to do with whether the car is polluting even when just stopped and standing still.

There's dozens of diagnostic fault codes related to this system, and they mean very different things. You have to know the exact fault code number to know where to start with the diagnosis.
