Hi,
The idea that the engine light flashes at times indicates a misfire. The first thing you should do is have the computer scanned for diagnostic trouble codes.
The traction system light could be the result of a bad wheel speed sensor. If you want, here is a link that explains how to check the sensors with a multi meter:

I would start by having the computer scanned for codes. Most parts stores will do it at no charge. Once you get the codes, let me know what they are and I can better direct you.
