The car does this at least once a day. I will be driving and the car will be acting normally when, out of nowhere, I will lose power. The car will not completely shut down but the engine sounds like it is idling even if I have the accelerator pedal all the way down to the floor. That is usually when I try to find a place to park. At slow speeds when I press the accelerator I feel the car trying to get up and go but it sounds like it will not get out of that low gear. Once I park I cut the car off for about ten minutes and then I cut the car back on and it is working fine. Brought the car to two mechanics and both of them could not tell me anything. The second mechanic, however, did give me an engine error code V0100.

Hi and thanks for using 2CarPros. Com.

I believe he meant to tell you the code was U0100, There are no V codes. With that in mind, this code indicates a communication issue between the engine control module (ECM) and the transmission control module (TCM). Since it fixes itself and returns to normal operation, I have a feeling it has to do with a dirty or corroded connection at either the ECM or the TCM. The TCM is my first suspect because of its location, next to the brake pedal and it happens when parking (easy to hit or move). What I want you to do is first disconnect the negative battery terminal. Once that is done, locate the TCM under the dash and confirm the following:

1) Is there any visual damage to the wiring?
2) Does the connector plug seem tight?
3) If there is no visual damage and it is tight, disconnect the wiring plug and inspect the inside of the both the plug and TCM for bent pins, corrosion, pins pushed back not giving full connection all the time.

Do this and let me know what you find.

I attached a picture of the TCM location. As I mentioned, it is near the brake pedal, under the dash. Note, before you reattach the battery's negative terminal, the TCM must be reattached. Do not connect the TCM after the battery is connected.

Let me know if this helps or if you have other questions.

Take care,
Joe
