The previous owner of my vehicle never had the ATF fluid changed/flushed. The ATF fluid in the vehicle is dark. Should I get the ATF fluid changed? Will that possibly solve the engine code issue? Also not sure if it is related at all but I also had the error code P0101 appear on my OBD2 which I know is for the MAF sensor. I got that error code a year earlier and purchased some MAF sensor cleaner which seemed to do the trick once I cleaned MAF sensor off.

Hi Steven,

The poor condition of the fluid does not appear to cause your P0711 DTC. This is a circuit code for the temp sensor. I suspect you have a failed sensor but I included the test to properly diagnose it.

As for the MAF sensor DTC, that is not related at all. I suspect you already corrected your issue once by cleaning the sensor. Unfortunately, cleaning it only buys you some time. You may have to end up replacing it at some point. Cleaning it may help again but there is no telling how long it will last.

With all that being said, I would change your ATF as well. Even though it probably did not cause this, you will have shifting issues in the future if it continues to deteriorate.

Please let me know if you need anything else. Thanks
