My car was diagnosed with error C1391 at the dealership. They are estimating $4,000.00 to replace the actuator system. Is this absolutely immediately necessary? Is it okay if I just have the brake fluids checked periodically?

Hello,

C1391 is a common failure in Prius vehicles.
It relates to a hydraulic pressure loss in the brake booster/accumulator assembly
To be exact Sub-assembly, brake booster with master cylinder, and that same assembly also contains the ABS actuator and the ECU.
It would be good to first check with your local Toyota dealer to see if there are any recalls for this issue on your model or if Toyota will provide any goodwill towards the repair.

As the brakes are a critical safety item, I would not leave this problem unattended.

A good video.
