Engine surges when holding accelerator at steady speed
Stalls or runs rough when in gear.

check for a vacuum leak if it is a six cylinder check for carburetor loose from top/bottom as screws loosen if a Quadrajet they leak vacuum inside and can be repaired. power block tv has tech on how to fix those.
